Poco después del 35° aniversario del veterano grupo de jangle folk-pop, el acertadamente llamado 'Playing Favorites' nos muestra a los 10000 Maniacs entregando un material que abarca toda su carrera ante una multitud en el Centro Reg Lenna de las Artes en su Jamestown natal, New York. Es el segundo álbum en vivo del grupo en tres décadas. 'MTV Unplugged' de 1993 fue solo eso, acústico. Este 'Playing Favorites' también marca el regreso del cofundador John Lombardo, quien se une a un equipo experimentado que incluye a Jerome Augustyniak, Dennis Drew, Jeff Erickson,Steven Gustafson, John Lombardo y Mary Ramsey.
