Cuando Dio actuó en el Festival Castle Donington Monsters of Rock de 1983, el grupo se comportó como un grupo de advenedizos jóvenes hambrientos con todo por demostrar. A pesar de la envidiable historia de Ronnie al frente de Elf, Rainbow y Black Sabbath, en ese caluroso día de agosto, Dio y sus compañeros aparecieron en quinto lugar en el cartel, calentando para Whitesnake, Meat Loaf, ZZ Top y Twisted Sister. Pero, como era de esperar estaban a la altura de ser cabeza de cartel. Con solo 45 minutos asignados, la banda mostro una mezcla de favoritos de los fans que combinan con stándares de Rainbow y Black Sabbath.
