Peter Gabriel presentó su quinto álbum de estudio, 'So', con 'Sledgehammer', inspirado en el soul pop a lo Otis Redding que fue su single más pegadizo y feliz hasta la fecha. 'Big Time', número de baile colorido, 'Don't Give Up', un dúo conmovedor con Kate Bush, 'Red Rain', un majestuoso himno pop, y 'In Your Eyes', la mejor canción de amor de Gabriel. Todos ilustraron la fortaleza del álbum y la capacidad de Gabriel para mezclar música africana, pop soul y art rock.
