En los albores de la década de 1980 Uriah Heep se considera una reliquia del metal pesado y nadie se sorprendió cuando anunciaron su separicion tras 'Conquest'. Sin embargo, poco despues se recibió una sorpresa inesperada cuando la banda regresó con una nueva alineación y un elegante sonido renovado en 1982 con 'Abominog'. De salida se revela rápidamente como uno de los álbumes más consistentes y atractivos del largo catálogo del grupo. El tono se establece desde la pista 'Too Scared to Run'. Otros temas afilados son 'Running All Night (With the Lion)' y 'Hot Persuasion'. Luego la banda equilibra hard rock con melodías a medio tiempo, 'Chasing Shadows', 'That's the Way That It Is'. Nota especial para el nuevo vocalista del grupo, Peter Goalby. Su estilo vocal sugiere un cruce entre Ronnie James Dio y Lou Gramm. Se adapta al estilo y a la intensidad emocional necesaria.
