'Absolutely Live' demostró que en concierto The Doors podían ser una experiencia agotadora. Morrison improvisa, recita poesía, a veces canta. Durante gran parte del concierto no se toma las canciones demasiado en serio, lanzando comentarios al público. En cuanto a la música, la conmovedora 'Universal Mind' y la sencilla 'Build Me a Woman' son temas originales que no aparecen en sus álbumes oficiales. 'Close to You' es una versión insulsa de Muddy Waters. '¿Who Do You Love?' es una versión de Bo Diddley, y 'The Celebration of the Lizard' es más un poema que una cancion. 'Soul Kitchen', 'Break on Through' y 'When the Music's Over' palidecen en comparación con las versiones de estudio.
