'In the Hot Seat' fue grabado en un mal momento y probablemente nunca debió haberse grabado. Carl Palmer había necesitado una cirugía por síndrome del túnel carpiano y Keith Emerson una cirugía por una lesión en el brazo derecho. Adolece de falta de dirección, de pasión y de una mala producción. El productor Keith Olsen no parece comprender el sonido de Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Hay breves destellos, por ejemplo la canción 'Daddy' sobre la desaparición de una niña en el norte del estado de Nueva York es conmovedora.
